Cold Gold

Well, after our long warm-up, I figured that the cold weather was in my rearview mirror. But boy was I wrong! We've had some chilly days, and I even had to break out my coat again. Luckily, pulling a pair of tights out of my drawer is all it takes for me to take this look from spring back to winter.

Today's outfit involves a skirt that I have owned for over seven years, and I keep coming back to it year after year because it's such a classic. I got this miniskirt, thickly woven into a black and white checkerboard pattern, as a Christmas present my freshman year of college. Over the years, I have dressed it up with heels and down with flats and riding boots.

This look is all about staying comfortably warm on a chilly, but not freezing, day. I've had this knit skirt since high school, and I love how soft and cozy it is. The low neckline of this sweater pretty much makes wearing a scarf mandatory--the difference that even a thin scarf makes never ceases to amaze me. Finally, a pair of tights keeps my legs plenty warm, despite many of my male students' insistence that this could not possibly be true.
