BIRTHDAY MONTH

January is my birthday month – which means I’m using any and every excuse to celebrate, and dress up! And dressing up is simple with a quality bandage dress. I received this blue long-sleeve bandage dress from the Kewl Shop, after having such a good experience with my first bandage dress from them.

I absolutely love how easy it is to make the dressy look complete, add a fabulous pair of earrings and statement shoes, and there you go! I’m so lucky to have the sweetest friends, I received these Kate Spade earrings as a gift from my good friend for Christmas! I can’t wait to visit her over my birthday, in less than 20 days! See you soon Mel & Adam! Also, these Steve Madden heels were a steal at $15 from DSW!

WHAT I WORE FOR CHRISTMAS

Happy Tuesday friends! Wow, sorry I didn’t get a chance to wish you a Merry Christmas – so here it is a little late! Better late than never, right? I had the most relaxing Christmas and enjoyed the time spent with my family, boyfriend and Ms. Emma of course. I took Emma with me on Tuesday night and my boyfriend came down to Iowa on Christmas Eve, picking up my grandma along the way. Just as they arrived, the most beautiful snow began to fall. It continued through the time we went to Mass and opened gifts that night. It felt so magical after a snow-less December. It truly was a magical Christmas!

I decided to wear something comfortable, but still dressy. I first had on my red skirt, but after all the drinks and food over the past few days, I decided I didn’t want to sit through church in it. I changed into my red lace dress, last seen here, and wore it as a top with my comfortable black skater skirt. I added my Hanes tights (read more about how important they were for me this year here) and a pearl cluster necklace – just to add a bit of a statement. And my final touch of red lipstick – my favorite for many years. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are getting excited to ring in the New Year this week! I work through tomorrow and am looking forward to counting down to the New Year, and welcoming 2016 with open arms. Have a great week!

HOLIDAY PARTY STYLE WITH H&M

December is upon us, which means I have officially entered into full holiday mode – non-stop Christmas music, sparkling lights galore and getting ready for festivities ranging from work parties to holiday events with friends and family. While the joy and the cheer of the season is certainly delightful, one of the most exciting parts about the holiday season is being able to plan what I’m wearing for holiday parties!
I always start by focusing my party outfit around shades of red or green, and then add details like sparkly jewels, textures and a fabulous pair of heels. H&M has the perfect selection of bright holiday colors, sparkly jewelry, textured tights, skirts and beautiful, unique pieces.  When I spotted this bright red, cozy sweater, I thought it would be fun to dress up for a picture perfect party outfit. With a textured tweed skater skirt, lace tights and a layered, rhinestone necklace, the sweater turns from a more casual style to glam. The final details, including my bright red lip and sequin clutch, make me ready for any holiday party!

VINTAGE FLORAL DRESS

The best kind of dresses are vintage dresses. I own about ten of them and they are my absolute favorite dresses… unique, high quality, beautiful patterns and colors, fit like a dream and make me feel special. I tend to wear them on the weekends, which is usually when I ignore taking photos for the blog, but I’d love to share more of them soon, so stay tuned!

Do you know what’s best about this vintage dress? It’s my beautiful mother’s dress that she let me borrow! I think I was supposed to give it back to her over the 4th of July, but shhh… I love it so much mom, can’t I keep it? Just kidding, guess it’s time to get back to Napa Valley to visit Betty’s Girl Napa! If you are in Napa Valley I HIGHLY recommend checking this vintage boutique out ! Happy hump day!

CHAMBRAY + METALLIC SKIRT

So, I’ve seen this kind of look a few times and love the idea of a chambray shirt with a sequin skirt, but for work, a metallic skirt works a little better. I’ve seen Laura and Jessie (found on Pinteresther blog is now found under Fashion Salade rock this look, and honestly this look all came together when I decided I wanted to wear my denim dress.  But of course my struggle of getting ready in the morning… I didn’t know what to wear with my denim dress, so I instead turned it into a shirt by adding a thrifted metallic skirt and a thin leopard print belt. Adding a black blazer and some booties, I had my version of this look complete! Comfy, yet cute and I love that I was able to get more use out of my denim dress! Do you like to wear your dresses as skirts or shirts?

Whenever I wear these green tights, I always think that I am being Peter Pan for a day.  I have always dreamed of going to Neverland.  It would be nice, wouldn’t it?

ENG/ Unfortunately, here in Paris we are in lockdown again. It's going to be a month where we have to be patient and responsible to faith against this situation. By the way, we can go out for a little walk, so this weekend we took this pictures with this dotted dress from Dresslily. I must recognise that I love this dress! In Dresslily you have a 22% discount in your orders using the code GBJKNO. Have a nice week!

¡Feliz semana! :)

VELVET AND SNOW: “AMELIA” BY BLACKBUTTERFLY FOR COLD WINTER DAYS

The first snowflakes start falling, an icy wind is blowing, and the nights are freezing cold – winter is here! And although I have to freeze again during photo shoots, the roads are slippery, and my feet feel like ice cubes most of the time, the cold season has something magical. I love sitting at my window and watching the snowflakes, or reading all cuddled up on my couch while sipping a cup of tea. Moreover, I’m totally in Christmas mood right now. Glamorous velvet, sparkly jewellery, and festive accessories – that’s exactly what I want to wear during this time of the year. A wonderful dress for all those festive occasions during pre-Christmas season is “Amelia” by BlackButterfly.

PERFECT FOR WINTER: “AMELIA” BY BLACKBUTTERFLY

“Amelia” has a classy cut with a tight top and slightly flared skirt, which looks even better with a petticoat underneath. The mid-length sleeves keep you warm and look very elegant. Another highlight of the dress is the keyhole neckline with it’s lovely collar.
But although the dress is quite warm, it’s ways too cold to go out without a coat by now. I’m wearing the “Angeline Coat” by Hell Bunny on top of the dress. Sparkly fishnet tights by Calzedonia are very glamorous and go so well with the outfit. Tip: It’s not that cold when you wear them on top of nude-coloured stockings. 😉
Glamorous silver and white shoes by Ruby Shoo, the elegant starlite earrings by Glitter Paradise and the festive hairflower by Sophisticated Flowers finish the Christmassy vintage inspired outfit for winter.

FROM DESK TO DINNER WITH THE VINTAGE DOT BACKSEAMS BY SECRETS IN LACE

Who doesn’t know this; we worked longer than we wanted and have therefore now time to change our outfit for an evening out. Just good, that it’s quite easy to transform an office outfit to a dinner look.
A simple black pencil skirt should be in every closet and is perfect for both, daytime, and evening. Instead of wearing a blouse, I chose a beautiful top with a pretty cherry pattern. A thick white belt emphasises your curves but looks still classy. If you work in a more conservative company, I recommend more discreet stockings like those.
For dinner, however, I really love wearing the “Vintage Dot Backseam” stockings by Secrets in Lace. They totally dress up an office outfit and look very seductive. In this blog post I already showed you a more classy but not less glamorous pair from the same label. White nylon gloves, also by Secrets in Lace, finish the dinner look.

WARM, ELEGANT AND STYLISH: A RETRO LOOK FOR AUTUMN WITH YOUR SILK SHOP AND BLACKBUTTERFLY

Summer is over and the warm temperatures are passé. I’m still in the countryside and won’t be back in Munich before the “Wiesn aka Oktoberfest” madness is over. Until then, I spend my time reading and walking in nature. Sometimes I combine both and search for a lovely place at the lake to read magazines and books. But as the weather is already quite autumn-like here in Germany, it’s important to choose warm clothes. Dresses with long sleeves and cosy accessories are a must.

LONG SLEEVES AND A LOVELY DESIGN: THE ZARA VINTAGE SWAN DRESS BY BLACKBUTTERFLY

The Zara Vintage Swan Dress by BlackButterfly is perfect for the first chilly autumn days. The fabric is quite thick to keep you warm, and I really love the longer sleeves. However, when it’s really cold, I’m going to team the dress with long gloves. What I love most about the retro dress is the lovely colourful print. Underneath, I wore a vintage petticoat as well as tights.

NEW HAIR, NEW LIFE? WHY I CUT MY HAIR INTO A BOB

A new haircut is often associated with huge changes in a woman’s life. This is maybe why I received a lot of questions after my visit at the hairdresser, if some parts of my life have changed. Well, acutally not. I’m still very happy in my relationship – even after more than six and a half years, I’m still studying, and also nothing else has happended. I just wanted a change on my head.
On that point, I have to mention that my hair is quite difficult to handle. Curls hang out pretty quickly, if I straighten my hair, the first waves come back after about half an hour, and I need a ton of hairspray to get my baby hairs under control. This is why I wore a huge bun or ponytail most of the time. But after more that twenty years with the same hairstyle, I wanted something new. In the end, it was a quite spontaneous decision and I chose a hairdo which even the ancient Egyptians liked: A classy bob.

THE BOB AND IT’S HISTORY

The bob became popular in our world in the 20s. Back then, not only the dresses but also the hair got shorter. The most favoured cut was a style where the hair ended at the ears and contained bangs. One of the most popular bob wearers back then was definitely actress Louise Brooks. This drastically cut can be seen as a part of emancipation and a sign of modernity.
In the 50s, the bob was worn a bit longer and normally ended at the chin. But only in the 60s the bob became very popular again, thanks to hairstylist Vidal Sassoon. Nowadays, the bob can be worn in a lot of different variations and lengths. The best part about this haircut is, that it so versatile: no matter if straight, curly, or wavy – a bob always looks stylish.
I chose a length which ends between my chin and shoulders. Therefore I’m still able to put my hair into a ponytail but profit from all the advantages short hair has: Washing and styling my hair is much quicker, and I’m still amazed how easy it is to brush my hair now. I also feel freer and really enjoy this new feeling of shorter hair on my head.

A SIMPLE RETRO LOOK

To match my new hairstyle, I chose a simple but elegant retro outfit. The key piece of this look is my beloved red swing skirt by The House Of Foxy, which I already showed you here a few weeks ago. It’s definitely one of my favourite skirts ever, as it can be teamed with so many different tops. Find more examples here as well as here.
This time, I chose a black top with lace details on the sleeves. Sparkling statement earrings, the Moss Garden Heels, and a leather jacket finish the retro look.
It’s a perfect outfit for a lot of different occasion just like a coffee date with friends, dinner with your love, or after work party with the colleagues.

FOR EVERY OCCASION: THE RIBBON SKIRT BY LENA HOSCHEK

Every wardrobe needs some basics since they go so well with a lot of different clothes and helps us if we just don’t know what to wear.  That basics don’t have to be plain and boring, necessarily, proves the Ribbon Skirt by  Lena Hoschek. Since the skirt is so colourful, it’s very easy to combine it with a lot of differnt tops and sweaters.

LENA HOSCHEK RIBBON SKIRT: COLOUR AND CUT

The Ribbon Skirt is made of – surprise – a lot of different ribbons. There is a huge variety of lengths and colours available, mine is a short one. The half circle skirt keeps its A-line shape even without a petticoat.
I wear the skirt from summer to winter optionally with opaque tights, sweater and boots, or a top and pumps. At the end of the blog post, I show you different outfits with the Ribbon Skirt.

LENA HOSCHEK RIBBON SKIRT: QUALITY AND PRICE

The quality of the Ribbon Skirt is really amazing: All seams are perfectly finished and the fabric keeps its shape. Of course such delicate garments aren’t made for the washing machine so it’s best if you wash the skirt by hand.
The prices of the Ribbon Skirts start at about 380 Euro which is quite a lot. But since its a handmade item, it’s and investment for me. 😉 Maybe also a wonderful gift idea?
My version is called “Ribbon Skirt short worker” and unfortunately no longer available. But at the Lena Hoschek online shop you will find a huge variety of different and very beautiful models.

Resumé: The Ribbon Skirt by Lena Hoschek is made of many colourful ribbons and goes very well with a lot of different outfits. The price is with about 380 Euro quite high, but since the quality is amazing and the skirt handmade it was a good investment for me.

FOR A GLAMOROUS AUTUMN: CARDIGAN BY YUMI AND STOCKINGS BY SECRETS IN LACE

Autumn came abruptly this year, don’t you think so? While I was swiming in the lake in the middle of September, the for Munich typical golden October never happened. Unbearable heat on the one day, freezing cold temperatures on the next. But before everything will be grey and monotonous, I decided to make the best out of the last October days and walked through the rustling, colourful leaves. At this time of the year, I especially love dark, warm shades. A wonderul companion therefore is the corduroy pencil skirt in burgundy by Von 50′, which I already showed you here and here. Since I didn’t want to freeze, I decided to wear a warm but glamorous cardigan by Yumi, which I bought at Maison Chi Chi in Munich.

Golden stitches and see-through details make it a real head-turner. Under sheer garments I highly recommend beautiful, non-transparent underwear – we don’t want to show everything, right? A wonderful bra for tops like this is the “Sophisticated Strapless Bra” by Secrets in Lace Europe, which comes with removable straps – I decided to wear it without them. If you prefer a not-so-sexy but still stylish look, you should check out the Secrets in Lace “Strapless Longline Bra“.  This one looks more like a top as you can see here.

If temperatures are low, warm stockings are a must. A very elegant pair are the “Shiny Seamed Full Fashion” hoses with a red seam by Secrets in Lace. They go so well with the skirt and are simply perfect for the cold season. I’m sure I’m going to wear them for Christmas.

If you venture outside at this weather, you definitely shouldn’t forget a cozy jacket. Mine is a bit older, but I linked a similar one below. By the way: A cute umbrella is a very good idea as well. 😉

PURE ELEGANCE: THE IDDA VAN MUNSTER 50’S WIGGLE DRESS FROM MISS CANDYFLOSS

What I like most about the 50s? The glamour, of course. I love looking at old pictures of either my grandma or Hollywood movie stars. A dress that brings this glamour and elegance into our time is the striped version of the Idda van Munster 50’s Wiggle Dress by Miss Candyfloss.

A PENCIL DRESS DESIGNED BY IDDA VAN MUNSTER

Just like the Wie das 50’s Tartan Swing Dress this pencil dress is another piece designed by the one and only Idda van Munster. I especially love the gorgeous details like the stripes, the black taffeta rose, and how the flaps over the tummy accentuate the waist.
To add even more glamour, I teamed the outfit with a sparkling vintage bag, vintage seamed stockings, and nylon gloves by Secrets in Lace. Rose earrings by Glitter Paradise matching the flower on the dress finish the 50s inspired retro outfit.

COMFY AND CUTE: A CARDIGAN FOR EVERYDAY BY COLLECTIF CLOTHING

Cardigans are perfect for the colder season. They are cute and cozy and if I don’t know what to wear a cardigan in combination with a dress or skirt is always a good idea.
One of my favorite pieces is a black cardigan with some cute cherries on it from Collectif Clothing. I teamed the cardie with a simple red dress, tights and boots. This outfit is perfect for a walk in the autumn sun.
