Flavia from Brazil

-->
Pleated skirt

When I was a little girl, my mother and I got in a big car crash. I had to go through a risky operation and that left me with an also big scar across my belly. This has been part of me since, and it never really bothered me to the point I’d ever try to cover it up. Who am I kidding, belly display in Brazil is as classic as the trench coat. The transformations your body is exposed to overtime tells a story of who you are. Just like my “made in brazil” tattoo is expressive of where I come from and my wrinkles will represent wisdom acquired in years to come, my scar reminds me I’m a survivor

Black & Flowers

It took me long enough to pull this jacket out of my closet and make some good use of it. You know that garment in your closet you absolutely love individually, but at every attempt it doesn’t make it further than the mirror, right back to the hanger? It’s a shame because this one has a lot of potential, I know. Surprisingly, there were plenty of these left the night after the Versace for H&M launch and even months later. Like the Portuguese quote says “taste is just like a butt, everyone has got one” and apparently mine is very different from the rest.

Soiree

For the Independent Fashion Blogger Soiree the pressure was off. Assembling this outfit felt like a breeze compared to the outfit I posted on Tuesday. I spotted this dress at Akira (a local boutique I should be posting about fairly soon) and instantly knew it would serve me well. Black (although the purchase was made for a specific event, I was in serious need for something preto), basic but also flirty and fun. Me, happy.

Minimal

…in parts, this is the simplest, least accessory adorned outfit I’ve shown on the blog yet. As much as I’d fantasize my style would be perceived as Kate Moss inspired (stylistically, we clearly don’t share the same amount of melanin), I know I’m miles away from obtaining her lifelong eclectic taste for fashion, which includes many minimalistic takes. Lulu never seems to fully embrace minimal, and even when I try (today’s photos fitting example) I fail to incorporate color in a non-distracting, minimalist way. Harsh but true. This is my Brazilian way to wear minimal, though: minimal accessories, just a little splash of color and maximum confidence. What’s your way?

Mustard Tights

You’d think I’m a spokesperson for Topshop. Not really, just obsessed. Too bad you can’t even see what I had underneath and that’s the only thing I’ve condemned about winter. Chicagoans must be trained to dress from the top layer down while I seem to struggle in layering at all. It’s just not the same as pulling off a swim suit and throwing on a a cover-up.

Amateur

People often ask me if I miss Florida. In all honesty? Not really, not yet. But I’m sure that will inevitably change. These photos were one of the “test-shoots” we (Elliott and I)  did in downtown Orlando before I embraced fashion blogging for good. We had just received a new lens from his generous parents and were still figuring out the “blurry background” trick. As for the outfit, I apologize we didn’t capture the shoes (how amateur! Motorcycle boots, FYI). The chick seems so indecisive: sunglasses or headband? Turns out, they were both fine. What I’m not so sure about are the purple tights and the squishy dress. And the cropped jacket. Other than that though…

Let it Snow

With yesterday’s gift guide and this I guess it’s extra long-post week, huh? If you don’t mind, I don’t. You knew this one was coming, didn’t you? I was thinking of you when putting this one together: dressed up
tiny little black dress. Everyone has one of these in the closet, all you gotta do is be inventive with the accessories. Going all out (bold prints + wild textures) all at once is not exactly required, some may think it is a bit overdone (I wasn’t totally sold myself after the first mirror-check) but keep in mind it’s Christmas and you only get to dress up for this occasion once a year (duh!).

Vest Like

In case I haven’t mentioned yet, I’m this close to loosing it because of a fur vest. All of the sudden, I’m seeing them everywhere but they always so damn expensive. My little pocket can only handle so much spending, even though my unfaithful eyes never agree. Temp solution? H&M makes these great faux fur scarfs that can be thrown over any jacket, sweater, dress for under $20 pesos. I threw it over a dark sweater, twisted both sides near my neck,  wrapped it with a belt and look! I’ve got myself faux vest.

Thanksgiving Brunch

I think I figured out the perfect outfit to wear on Turkey day (Tomorrow, YAY!) Let me walk you through. First, I focused on aesthetics. It had to scream Native American off to harvest brunch with some fellow pilgrims. Knit poncho and headband did the trick. Moving on, I tried to worry about comfort. Leggings provide enough given to accommodate my food-baby belly (the thanksgiving meal at the Robinson household is quite large) and the poncho will help hide it. For practicality, I thought that due to the chilly weather I should layer and a dress sweater fit the bill perfectly. Leg warmers helped keep my legs warm along with these suede booties. I’m now all prepped to give thanks. Off to Indiana.

Homemade Costume

If you haven’t read the previous post, read on. This is the eighth of a sequence of homemade Halloween outfits assembled by me. Sit-back, laugh and enjoy! Oh, and start guessing: Who am I for Halloween? Due to the length of my dress it’d be easy to assume I’m a hooker. For Halloween, obviously. I like to think I never give that impression. But again, this is not an easy one. Let’s see how good at this you really are:

- I feel like her life is going off and getting perfect and mine is just…pfffrrr
- I’m the maid of dishonor
- Just hold on for one more day
